Lewis Edgar (L.E.) West was born 13 April 1854 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Harmon E. and Mary E. West. The family settled in Rock Island, Illinois, in 1861. On 10 October 1888, L.E. West married Ella C. Clarkson of Galesburg, Illinois. The West family papers, 1885-1928 and undated, consists of correspondence (1894-1915 and undated), financial records (1913-1928), advertisements (undated), and other papers (1885-1921 and undated).

Bernard Y. Wickstrom was a student at Augustana College from 1947 until 1950. He was an editor for the Augustana Observer, president of the Augustana chapter of the Alpha Delta Journalistic Fraternity, and a "Poobah." The Bernard Wickstrom papers, 1948-1950 and undated, contains photographs, clippings, and artwork, largely related to Wickstrom's membership in the Phi Omega Phi (POP) fraternity.

The organization was most concerned with nonviolent protest against the dangers of alcohol. The Collection on local Woman's Christian Temperance Union chapters, 1909, 1922-1925, contains a report from a 1909 convention hosted by the WCTU of Rock Island, Illinois, and a book of minutes, 1922-1925, from meetings of the WCTU of Davenport, Iowa.
